Modern, traditional and new country/rock

Marin country rockers Left on Lonely have released their new CD, One Life Stand, on Special Projects Records. The CD includes two new original songs by LoL’s Mary Anderson, as well as updated and reinterpreted versions of classics by Emmylou Harris, Rodney Crowell, Hank Williams, the Flying Burrito Brothers, John Fogerty, Guy Clark, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Don Schlitz and Merle Haggard. These songs are outstanding examples of traditional and modern country.

Left on Lonely includes singers Mary Anderson and Jeff Harris, ace guitarist Chris “Belvedere Cowboy” Goddard, Jimmy “Right on Time” Sage on drums, percussion and strings, David Ervin on keyboards, and Mark Shepherd on bass, harmony vocals and accordion. Special guests rounding out the LoL sound include Joe Goldmark on pedal steel, Doug Adamz on fiddles, Sandy Griffith on harmony and backing vocals, Jed Harris on guitars and harmony vocals, Dan Barbee on keys, and Lou Ponticas on mandolin and harmony vocals. Jeff contributed acoustic and electric guitars and bass, banjo, mandolin, harmonica, and washboard. Mary played the Gibson® Emmylou acoustic guitar.

The cover of the CD features the truck Mary first learned to drive, with traditional New Mexico rainbows that appeared at a recent family reunion. (Jeff’s truck was even older, but it’s gone to the great parts depot in the sky). Her original songs popped into her head commuting to the wilds of the East Bay. They recount true experiences.

Jeff started listening to country music growing up on a farm in New Mexico, and Mary listened to western swing and Tex-Mex. Jeff met Joe and Chris at Family Light Music School in the 70s and played country in the Bay area. Jeff and Mary really tuned in when they lived, listened and played in Nashville. They have played many of these tunes ever since then.
