Purvis and the Stray Dogs play classic and modern rockabilly, with Purvis' great vocals and lots of harmonies

Purvis and the Stray Dogs have compiled a standout collection of old and new rockabilly for your listening and dancing pleasure. This double CD pays tribute to and reinterprets some great and some more obscure rockabilly tunes. The pompadours (real or imagined) are gone, but not the vocal and instrumental passion, driving beats, and occasional full-blown romanticism. It’s homage to the artists who originally blended rock, country and soul to produce eminently danceable, hip-shaking music. The music lives on, with updated arrangements and recording.

All members of the band have loved rockabilly for years. Chris, Jeff, Purvis and Ernest have played and sung many of these tunes since their teens (and that's a long time!). Jimmy plays definitive rockabilly drums. Dave and Dan play some of the meanest rockabilly pianos anywhere. Sandy, Lynn, Mary, and Ernest Baritone add their gorgeous duet and backing vocals.

Purvis and Jeff discovered fairly early on that they could channel rockabilly greats such as Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly, Elvis, Roy Orbison, Johnny Burnette, Eddie Cochran, Huey "Piano" Smith and the Everly Brothers. That's mostly Disc 1, Rockabilly Model. Jerry Lee and Don Everly are the last men standing, but the music more than deserves to keep hopping and bopping

They also love newer songs and updated interpretations by artists inspired by rockabilly. Those "new rockabillies" include Paul McCartney, George Harrison, the Beatles, Freddie Mercury, Cheap Trick, the Stray Cats, Leon Russell and the Traveling Wilburys. They've added rockabilly interpretations of tunes by J. Geils and Chuck Berry. That's Disc 2.

The Stray Dogs have some impressive credentials in and out of rockabilly. Individually, they've played with Maria Muldaur, Commander Cody, Bill Kirchen, Merle Travis, Tina Turner, Gladys Knight, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Bob Seger, Willie Nelson, Leon Russell, Dave Edmunds, Huey Lewis, Joe Cocker, Elton John, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Boz Skaggs, Kenny Loggins, Lee Rocker, Backseat Boogie, the Vents, the Egrets, Driving Wheel, Sound Medicine, Left on Lonely, Electric Blanket, and the Chugach Mountain Ramblers, among others.

We hope you enjoy the music!
